Metal Braces VS. Ceramic Braces

When you are ready to start your orthodontic treatment, you have several options for the types of braces to fit your needs. The three most common are metal braces, clear braces, and clear aligners.

A lot of people think Invisalign clear aligners sound convenient, but some know they wouldn’t be great at wearing the aligners all day and all night and are worried about losing them so they opt for braces. We offer two types of braces: metal braces and clear braces.

Benefits of Metal Braces

Traditional metal braces are our most commonly chosen option from our 3 types of braces available. Kids like the look of the metal, especially with colored bands. Among school-aged kids, metal braces are chosen for several reasons:

  • Custom colored bands
  • Smaller than you remember
  • Durable
  • Can correct more complex problems

Braces are widely regarded as fun and cool. A lot of adults also like the look of them. Additionally, Dr. Cardall uses superior, low-profile brackets that sit flatter against the teeth making them the most comfortable braces available.

Benefits of Ceramic Braces

However, other people feel self-conscious at the thought of metal braces drawing attention to them and their teeth so we recommend clear braces for them. Some of the factors you should know about ceramic braces:

  • More discreet than traditional metal braces
  • They are just as tough
  • Wires can be colored to match your teeth OR your personality
  • Less damage to your tooth enamel
  • Come off easier after treatment

Clear ceramic braces function the same as metal braces; Dr. Cardall can get the same result in the same amount of time with either option. The only difference is their appearance. With clear braces, you see the teeth through the braces so they match every tooth shade making them the more discrete option as they are nearly invisible.

Customize What Color Braces Represent You

By the way, just because you’ve chosen clear braces doesn’t mean you can’t have colors! Many people choose clear braces but put colored bands on them for a really fun look! You are always welcome to choose whatever colors you want. Some people like the option of the clear braces so they can choose clear bands for a discrete look at times and still be able to have colored bands for school spirit.

Whichever color of braces you choose, one thing remains constant: that perfect result! Dr. Cardall is a specialist at straightening teeth and aligning bites and he understands that the process is a big part of achieving that result so he allows his patients to choose whatever option they want!
