Early Treatment
Q: At which age should your child have his or her first orthodontic exam?
A: Age 7!
When your child is this young, their orthodontic condition might be the least of your worries. Contrary to popular belief, bringing your child in for an initial exam at age 7, can save you money, and more importantly, early examination and early detection can save your child from severe, necessary treatments in the near future. This is why the American Association of Orthodontists recommends every child have their first orthodontic consultation at age 7.
Early Detection
As permanent teeth are erupting and settling into place, Dr. Cardall can identify emerging conditions that will become problematic in the near future. During the orthodontic examination, he is able to detect bite issues (such as underbites, overbites, open bites or cross bites) that will inevitably progress as permanent teeth stabilize. Bite conditions are often a result of genetics, but can also be a result of common habits such as thumb-sucking. We offer orthodontic treatment to correct the jaw alignment and structure which the child has inherited, as well as reverse damage caused by thumb-sucking or other habits.
